How to make herbal salves with herb infused oils

Herbal salves are one of my absolute favorite home remedies and skin care products to make. They are super simple to create once you have completed making a herb infused oil. In this video I am making a first aid salve which will be used on minor cuts, bug bites, burns, rashes, acne and other types of minor skin irritations. The recipe I used for this salve is one that can be used for any type of salve you plan to make!

Instructional videos on making herb infused oils:

1. Alcohol intermediary method: (my favorite for making oils that go into salves) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INykP25N2SQ&t=37s

2. Folk method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07Wm3i4MsUU

Directions for making a salve:
1. Clean and sterilize any jars/utensils you will be using in the process. Make sure everything is completely dry before use.
2. Melt your beeswax on low in a bane marie and add in your herb infused oils. For a small batch for personal use I recommend 1 ounce of beeswax to 4 ounces of you herb infused oils. ( I recommend making your salve in a container with a spout. This makes pouring it more precise and less messy. )
3. Once all of the ingredients are thoroughly mixed together and melted it is time to pour your salve into containers. (Before pouring you can choose to add in some essential oils)
4. Let your salves harden in place and completely solidify.
5. Put on lids, label and store in a cool & dark place.

My first aid salve recipe follows all of these steps and the ingredients are: 1 ounce of beeswax, 2 ounces of yarrow & plantain infused olive oil and 2 ounces of self heal infused coconut oil.

Thanks for watching and happy crafting! For any questions feel free to ask in the comments below.

HOPING YOU NOTICE THIS COMMENT. Hi 👋🏻 We were doing a research about Chromolaena odorata herb as antibacterial treatment. But we have never done any lab before. I was wondering if you could make an ointment that’s easily preservable and could be available use for rural places that are far from medical resources and hospitals. Maybe we could also use the video as bases for our research. Thank you in advance.

Hello. I just found your video. In your opinion what is the best oils to use for homemade stabs? Like coconut oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil? I’ve been making my homemade creams for over a year now and I’ve used a different oils, but I’m not sure what is the best oil. Or does it vary versus the type of lotion you’re making?

Please don’t use coconut oil in salve for acne prone skin. Coconut oil actually clogs pores 😢😢

Good day. I enjoyed you video which was easy to follow and very calming. If I only have oil that’s not infused, dried ground herbs and bees wax, how would I make the salve. (p.s. I have plantain leaf herb) Thank you for any info you can offer.

Thanks! I rendered down some beeswax from a chunk of honeycomb I bought from the grocery. Not much, I just have enough for like one or two small salves, but making some today nevertheless! I’m also going to add cacao butter to one of them to stretch it, plus to get that Vitamin E addition that it provides.

I discovered your videos partly because my 10 year granddaughter loves studying plants. We’ve found plantain & self-heal all around our area. Plus, I’m a beekeeper so we’re going to learn to make salves.

I find the coconut oil makes the salves greasy.

  22. @MountainJohn on March 20, 2025 at 8:37 pm

I do not understand why your videos do not have more views. They are incredibly well made, good thumbnails, informative and overall very pleasing to watch. Unfortunately, the majority of videos that get views are "meemaws country days cough syrup." Because people want something that reminds them of their childhood or they trust old age more. Keep up the amazing work though. I subscribed.
