Natural Workout Supplements For Endurance Athletes: Do They WORK?!

Natural workout supplements have been all the rage recently with many of them being quite unorthodox and a bit over the top in some cases! Heather attempts to get to the bottom of this by focussing on some of the more popular supplements out there, along with the research that has been conducted!

Carlos Alcarz used pickle juice in Roland Garros this year.

Nice! I use beetroot in almost daily basis. Cherries or red fruits often. Pickle juice (or small doses of vinegar – easier in my country) as an SOS in long races in case of cramps

  3. @Dremansworld on March 20, 2025 at 8:15 pm

Beets are definitely a winner. Eat a whole jar. If it doesnt aid performance at least it will be spectacular when you puke. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Is there any actual scientific evidence to show what causes muscle cramps? As far as I’m aware there is not.

  7. @blairphelps7215 on March 20, 2025 at 8:22 pm

I live in Canada, and pickle juice is a must. I did UTMB, and there were a lot of confused looks when I asked where the pickle juice was. Though over here, we use dill pickles, not gerkins.

  8. @jonathanzappala on March 20, 2025 at 8:27 pm

I’ve tried tart cherry juice, I can’t say it tastes good. I tried beet juice, you have to drink a lot and it does not taste good. I prefer the beet it shots, it’s concentrated and the lemon juice masks the flavor pretty well. Just watch out for a surprise when you pee.

    This is extremely good info!

  11. @michaellane1316 on March 20, 2025 at 8:30 pm

I have used pickle juice before. I would mix it with other forms of hydration or sometimes straight. It definitely will improve performance. Though I would say that it shouldn’t be relied upon.

  12. @MrMeowNow on March 20, 2025 at 8:31 pm

    Love pickle juice…

  13. @lesliereissner4711 on March 20, 2025 at 8:33 pm

I suffer from bad muscle cramps from time to time. I thought pickle juice was a joke until I was able to try it out and relief was instant. More practically, I keep a bottle of Hot Shot, a product made with chili peppers, handy. I wonder if because the taste of things is so bad your body forgets about the cramping!

  14. @workingguy-OU812 on March 20, 2025 at 8:37 pm

Great video! Yes. I’ve used some of these, and one of them has seemingly really helped me achieve athletic goals.

  15. @sirmanni4534 on March 20, 2025 at 8:38 pm

I had a 17 year lacrosse πŸ₯ player from Germany tell me about pickle πŸ₯’ juice πŸ§ƒ. Him and his teammates swore how it took away severe calf cramping. So I look at it as a remedy as opposed to a preventative measure

  16. @morellicl on March 20, 2025 at 8:44 pm

    Pickle juice rules!!!

  17. @ChrClausen on March 20, 2025 at 8:44 pm

How about the juice of pickled beetroots?

  18. @richardmiddleton7770 on March 20, 2025 at 8:44 pm

Beets work, but I find it better to eat whole beets the day before an event, it seems to stay in the system longer, whereas beet juice is much shorter lived. Just chop them up and steam them for 15 minutes then add them to stir fries, curries, salads etc. They’re actually really nice and sweet, not dull and earthy like the vacuum packed cooked beets you can buy!

In India, we’ve been adding Turmeric power to almost all dishes for centuries. Its also a natural anti-biotic.

Was this shot while Heather was pregnant as an excuse for her to eat odd foods and blame it on the baby?

    What about Ginseng 🫚

  25. @klewis2048 on March 20, 2025 at 8:53 pm

Beetroot causes me extreme GI distress. Best avoided πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  26. @krehme on March 20, 2025 at 8:54 pm

I had the thought that just keeping some of these ingredients as part of your regular diet / meal planning could be an easy way to give them a try.

  27. @bobgug8626 on March 20, 2025 at 8:54 pm

Antioxidants and anti-inflammatories blunt the training response though when taken within a couple of hours around a training session. I’d only take them pre-exercise for a race, or maybe occasionally if you’re feeling under the weather.

  28. @infovidasupps8640 on March 20, 2025 at 8:54 pm

    Great video

You are very easy to listen to and watch. Great job!

  29. @letstritogether on March 20, 2025 at 8:56 pm

I don’t know how much it improves my performance, but my bananas + cherries + beetroot smoothie with a few ice cubes is the perfect boost before a hot summer ride. I got the bananas, cherries, and beets ready to go, just waiting for that hot summer day. πŸ™„

Is TRP the same reason why your pee smells when you eat asparagus?

  31. @panzerveps on March 20, 2025 at 8:59 pm

I’ve had great success with beet root juice in the past, and I’ve found one product that actually doesn’t taste that bad.

  32. @brian2066 on March 20, 2025 at 8:59 pm

You have told us what you believe and seem to be…..
What about what you know and what is fact….
These fads are just placebo and trendy but does nothing.
Maybe next time have a nutritional and medical expert giving the verdict on these products…..

  33. @Chris_Pucci on March 20, 2025 at 9:03 pm

I’ve been using beet root powder for a couple years before races. The science is pretty solid on it. I joke that caffeine, sugar, and beet root powder are the top 3 legal performance enhancing drugs. πŸ˜‚

  34. @nataliamartinkova on March 20, 2025 at 9:04 pm

Heather! Thank you, GTN, for including her earlier videos now. Wishing her the best in her journey. These foods are great additions to a diet, and I particularly enjoy roasted beets.
