Heidi, thank you very much! I can relate to the story about your husband’s tooth surgery!! Been there myself! In stead of using vodka, can you use an 80 proof brandy instead so that it tastes better? In other words, as long as the alcohol is 80 proof plus, does it matter what you use? Thank you so much.

How long does herbs last in far bottles and still be safe. I made my first one for energy and take it under the tongue. I’ve noticed it’s been about 4!months in dark bottles, but is way more potent now? Thank you

What type of hops did you use?

  8. @gracebe235 on March 20, 2025 at 10:12 pm

Place in front of a sunny window?! This is the first time I’ve heard of this. I am ALWAYS hearing that tinctures are to be placed in a dark place for several weeks. Why the difference? What tinctures are best in the dark….and which ones are best in the sunlight?

Thanks for sharing!! I don’t use alcohol due to religious beliefs, I use vegetable glycerin. I love Rosemary’s book! I have a sleep tincture in my pantry already, but I like this one too. Very simple. I know the hops works great for me, and now I think i understand why. Great video!

  13. @dkulikowski on March 20, 2025 at 10:22 pm

Hi Heidi. Can you substitute chamomile, lemon balm and lemon verbena, lavender and spearmint as a sleep tincture?

  14. @ddk3195 on March 20, 2025 at 10:24 pm

Thank you for sharing… Definitely going to make… Have you ever added calif poppy in your sleep tincture 🤗

  15. @nordlav on March 20, 2025 at 10:24 pm

I am allergic to flowers(lavender). Can you suggest a substitute herb?

  16. @kristaodegaard3226 on March 20, 2025 at 10:27 pm

Any idea if the alcohol speeds up the absorption in the stomach? Something tells me it might!

Can I add some kind of fruity essential oil to my tincture to break up that strong bitter medicine taste? I don’t know if I could tolerate the taste I added valyrian scull cap chamomile and lemon balm to mine with the hops and it just tastes so bitter and mediciny

  20. @SantaMuerteWorldwide on March 20, 2025 at 10:30 pm

If I want to start with a pint, how much valerian, hops, and lavender do I use?

  23. @deborahmickinkle3195 on March 20, 2025 at 10:33 pm

Do you think i could add skullcap to this also?

  24. @margaretsawin2575 on March 20, 2025 at 10:33 pm

I’ve got a few questions. First is there a “quick” way to make tinctures? Like heat/double boilers, magic butter makers? How long can you safely use the sleep aid? Weeks, months, indefinitely? And what do you do with your spent herbs? Just found you and I’m very excited to explore all the rabbit trails😊

  25. @carolynlouise6566 on March 20, 2025 at 10:34 pm

What do u do with empty bottles

  26. @tiarianamanna973 on March 20, 2025 at 10:34 pm

  27. @marionisabelzipperlephd6041 on March 20, 2025 at 10:35 pm

While the tincture is curing why sun as opposed to dark?

  28. @lynnscott8286 on March 20, 2025 at 10:36 pm

I’m confused.. could you go into detail when describing ingredients and amounts. I’m so learning and get confused about everything

  29. @chrisjensen1814 on March 20, 2025 at 10:37 pm

So I drained off my sleep tincture yesterday and squeezed out the stuff in a cheese cloth. The thing I learned is to glove up before getting the valerian on your hands. My hands stunk so bad and no amount of soap and water could get rid of the smell. So my tip is, use gloves!!!

  30. @SuperiorELFY on March 20, 2025 at 10:38 pm

You are so well spoken and it’s so easy to listen to you 🖤 thank you for sharing

  31. @earlrodgers4952 on March 20, 2025 at 10:40 pm

Great stuff I’ve been wanting to learn how to do this. I was interested in making a dandelion Tincher with the plants in my yard, hopefully soon you can do a lesson on dandelion Tincher. Thanks for sharing this valuable information

  32. @kristinernstsen7841 on March 20, 2025 at 10:40 pm

    you are my new favourite

  33. @silverpromidi on March 20, 2025 at 10:43 pm

Valerian is my ‘go to’ over Chamomile any day. Only reason I use Chamomile in my house is for fever reduction 🙂
If you have someone who is not too keen on the sub-lingual route, how much per glass of water?
    Thanks for this Heidi.
Fresh herbs where possible are the best, they are more potent and anything home grown tastes way better 🙂

  34. @chrisjensen1814 on March 20, 2025 at 10:44 pm

I’m confused about wether to put a tincture in the sunlight or dark place to extract the properties. Different people recommend opposite techniques. But if you experience that this tincture works and you’re putting it in the window, so I guess it’s ok to do that. Or does it depend on what kind of herb you’re processing?

  35. @esterwyman on March 20, 2025 at 10:44 pm

I’m using Everclear also , for my sleep tincture 👍

  36. @melaniemaldonado6692 on March 20, 2025 at 10:45 pm

Is there another herb i could substitute for lavender? Im not fond of it.

  37. @harvestmaid5669 on March 20, 2025 at 10:46 pm

Alcohol is also in vanilla extract,

  38. @dmarcouxbeatty374 on March 20, 2025 at 10:48 pm

Question please. I have cluster migraines. The only thing that gets rid of a migraine is sleep but you are in so much pain you can’t sleep. Can I add white willow bark to this tincture?

  39. @sky85ful on March 20, 2025 at 10:49 pm

I could use something safe to help my children back into a normal sleeping rhythm. lol I see this amount for 150 lb adult. Any suggestions for age 16 all the way down to 3

  40. @ceciliafuentes3299 on March 20, 2025 at 10:50 pm

I am going to try it. Thank you

  41. @melissacastillo4004 on March 20, 2025 at 10:50 pm

Just set mine in the window!! So excited. Pharmaceuticals with all of their side effects scare the crap out of me so this is definitely the way to go for me 🙂 Thank you so much Heidi!!!

  42. @KeyClavis on March 20, 2025 at 10:54 pm

Those that react to valerian as if it were a stimulant are likely bipolar. Those with bipolar disorder often have that reaction to drugs that affect the brain… like sedatives, stimulants, and anti-depressants.

I made my first valerian root tincture, 4 weeks prior to my TKR. I REALLY hate having to take pain meds. I don’t like how they make me feel. I am 4 weeks PO now, pain is so intense at night. so I bottled up my valerian root and took my full dropper with a glass of water. is there ANYTHING else I can take for pain? I plan on doing the hops and the lavender. THANK you for this video. very helpful

  46. @kingg697 on March 20, 2025 at 11:00 pm

    Thank you!
    Love your videos!

  47. @SheilaCoole on March 20, 2025 at 11:01 pm

    Can you rubbing Alcohol.

  48. @bluesage1528 on March 20, 2025 at 11:02 pm

Many years ago I read in a very old book that Valerian in small quantities has a calming effect, but in larger quantities it has a stimulating effect.

  49. @Stacey-uh7lv on March 20, 2025 at 11:03 pm

is there a formula on how to blend more than one tincture to create a bland? How do you know how much of each to put in? Thank you
